Your filter, seen from the inside.
Local measurements to understand how a baghouse filter behaves and to support technical decisions.
EcoSense is the CleanAir Europe project for the distributed monitoring of baghouse filters. Through measurement points integrated into the bag–cage system, it is designed to collect local information and help understand how the different zones of the filter behave during operation.
Distributed measurement complements the overall plant data with a reading closer to the filter elements.
Conceptual plan view. Positions and number of sensors depend on the application.
Measure where it matters. Observe how it changes.
The project focuses on local differential pressure and temperature, with relative humidity measurements according to the planned configuration. Comparing positions and observing them over time is the basis for a deeper reading of operating conditions.
- Local measurements at the instrumented points.
- Distributed architecture, designed to compare several zones.
- Data acquisition and transmission within the project architecture.
- An information base for developing diagnostic tools.
The number of points, the placement of the probes and the system configuration are defined in relation to the application.
From the filter bag to the information.
EcoSense is organised in four functional levels: the measurement points, the acquisition and transmission electronics, the gateway and the data management environment. In the concept developed, the collar of the instrumented cage houses the differential pressure measurement; the other probes are placed according to the needs of the measurement.
The gateway connects the measurement network to the data infrastructure. Visualisation and analysis turn the collected measurements into information that is useful to technical staff. Hardware configuration and services are defined during development and validation.
Understand where and when to look deeper.
EcoSense is designed to help recognise differences between zones of the filter, follow the evolution of operating conditions and study the response to cleaning events. This information can guide checks on flow distribution, dust build-up and thermal behaviour.
Reading the data requires the context of the plant: a change in a measurement is something to interpret, not an automatic diagnosis. Assessing the risk of condensation and predictive maintenance are development directions for the diagnostics.
Signals acquired over an interval of a few days: the pressure trace highlights the cleaning events, the temperature trace the thermal behaviour. Test data.
Better informed decisions. More focused action.
Knowing the behaviour of the filter better helps to focus attention where it is needed. EcoSense aims to provide a measurable basis for discussing critical points with maintenance staff, assessing cleaning and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- More visibility of the local conditions of the filter.
- Checks and action guided by data.
- Support in assessing the cleaning strategy.
- A data base for future diagnostic developments.
The actual benefits depend on the process, the configuration and validation on the plant. The project does not assume guaranteed reductions in consumption, downtime or wear.
