Every pulse-jet cleaning system relies on one critical component: the venturi. It is the point where the compressed air pulse turns into the pressure wave that detaches dust from the bag. But not all venturi solutions are designed the same.
During the pulse, compressed air enters the bag at high speed and draws in with it a far larger volume of surrounding air. It is this total volume — not the compressed air alone — that generates the pressure wave which flexes the fabric and releases the deposited dust layer.
Venturi geometry determines how much air is induced and how the wave travels along the bag. An inefficient venturi concentrates the effect in the upper section and leaves the lower part less clean: this is where early pressure drop recovery and the need for more frequent cleaning come from.
EcoTurbo has been developed to improve cleaning efficiency by increasing pressure wave intensity and the volume of air drawn in by the pulse. The effect translates into three operational benefits:
These benefits are connected to each other: more effective cleaning makes it possible to space out the cycles, and less frequent cycles mean less compressed air, less stress on the fabric and more stable operating conditions.
The concept did not stay on paper. It has been validated through CFD simulations and instrumented experimental testing, carried out in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano.
The fluid-dynamic simulations made it possible to compare the behaviour of different geometries and to observe how the pressure wave is distributed inside the bag; the instrumented tests then verified in the field the results obtained in simulation. This approach allows design choices to be supported by measured data, and not only by application experience.
EcoTurbo is available in several configurations, with the accessories required for installation on existing systems. The choice depends on filter geometry, bag type, diameter and the operating conditions of the plant.
The connection to the collar deserves as much attention as the component itself: an incorrect fit cancels out the advantage of the geometry, because part of the air escapes instead of entering the bag. For this reason, installation should be assessed together with the cage type and the anchoring system already in place.
The technical documentation covers the working principle, the engineering criteria behind the design, the results of CFD analysis and instrumental testing, the energy-saving benefits and the available configurations.
The most natural opportunity to consider an upgrade is the scheduled replacement of bags and cages: the filter is already open and the plant is already stopped. Reviewing the cleaning system at that stage makes it possible to act without additional downtime and without further access costs.
The second typical case is a plant showing rising compressed air consumption or increasingly frequent cleaning cycles: signals that are worth analysing starting from the cleaning system, before intervening on the fabric.
